Solutions to the Climate Crisis
ABOUT THE COURSE
Galileo's Classroom is excited to present a course on Climate Change from Instructor Tineke Thio, PhD, for students in grades 8 - 10.
SOLUTIONS TO THE CLIMATE CRISIS (8th - 10th grade)
While the most serious consequences of global warming lie in the future, we can already feel the effects today. In this course, we will explore the causes of climate change and its impact on our lives in New Jersey. The focus of the course is on what we can do about it, both as individuals and in our communities.
We have many options for cutting our carbon footprint, and ways to adapt to rising temperatures and extreme weather. These actions often have health and financial benefits as a happy side effect. Each class will focus on a specific topic, such as transportation, water, or extreme weather preparedness. After an overview of the issue, students are encouraged to contribute their ideas for solutions in a town hall style discussion.
ABOUT TINEKE THIO:
Tineke Thio, Ph.D., is a climate communicator. She has done research in condensed matter physics and nanophotonics, and has (co)authored 17 US patents (but only one is about photovoltaic cells). She writes a blog on climate-friendly cars, curates the newsfeed of a climate change communications group, and is the founder of the Princeton Climate Change Meetup group.
We will meet in the ADP Center, which is in University Hall on the Montclair State University campus.
