ABOUT THE COURSE

Galileo's Classroom is excited to introduce a course to explore Music Theory & Number Patterns for students in grades 4 - 7.

THE SOUND OF NUMBERS (4th - 7th)

Students will study the mathematical properties of sound. The essential questions we will seek to understand include:

How can we visualize sound?

Can we recognize the shapes of sounds?

How are musical riffs and fractal geometrical patterns similar?

What is the relationship between harmonics and sequential patterns?

Why do vibrating objects synchronize?

This fascinating hands-on music, math, and art class provides students the opportunity to experience and create rhythms, patterns, and riffs off of patterns (fractals).  As we explore the relationship between music theory and geometry, students will learn to recognize how patterns in sound and visual art are tied together to form composition. Musical guests and an acoustic engineer will interweave with our drawings, doodles, cuttings, and pastings.
